    Cheapest Track Day. Ever?

So at the last minute we found out about an open track day today at Waterford Hills. No time to register and get ready so we paid the $2 admission to watch. At lunchtime they announced Touring laps for anyone who wanted to - for free. This was a really laid back event and the Touring laps were pretty much a free-for-all for 10-15 laps

That's Jared R ringing out a Series 1 Renault 5 Turbo (the homologation version with aluminum doors, roof, etc.). Christian (who I think just recently got his driver's license ) is piloting the mid-engine Peugeot 205 T16!

And finally, an in-car from my rally urq pushing fairly hard to keep up with a very well-driven Ford Fiesta (this is a very tight track)!

Most fun I've had for 2 bucks in a long time

Before going to the track we stopped by for Cars & Coffee in Birmingham. The weird looking car is some sort of GM concept car, called the 'Eldorado' I think.

I'm all about cheap track days.

I've been instructing the local PCA drivers for at least four track days a year for the past ten years. I get four sessions on my own per track day for zero entry dollars. I do put my heart and soul into it though, so it's all good!

Plus you get to drive some really cool cars!

Yeah, I paid more for my hotdog at lunch than the track time I'm debating on running the SuperRallyX Series next weekend. It's at a local oval. Part banked oval, part tarmac road course, part dirt 2 cars start a half lap apart in a pursuit format. Could be fun if I don't blow up the car.

Is that the oval near Auburn where the RallyX is happening? Careful of those concrete walls.

The rally cars are scheduled to run at the X Games Sunday night on ESPN.

Man, I spent a lot of time at Waterford Hills with my dad when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories of that place. Cars going off track and ending up in the pond, in the mid 60's a Ford exec brought one of the GT 40s to the track - LeMans it aint, must have felt like driving in his living room.
