Hi All, all good things come to an end and, my time with Lyvvie has been wonderful.
She is a very, very original 911S 2.0 from the very first batch of three imported into the UK by AFN. To the best of my knowledge, never restored - only renovated around 10 years ago, she is a real gem and drives just as a 2.0S should.
Porsche were to launch the 'S' at the Geneva Salon in September of 1966. With this in mind, AFN UK ordered (as I understand it) three cars for customer use - the press car (LYY 911D) was ordered for delivery in October.
And so the story has it that LYV 9D, LYV 10D, and LYV 11D were delivered and registered on the 9th September 1966 - I've never found an earlier RHD car than LYV, being chassis number 305481S (another UK car, which while an earlier chassis number was not delivered until December and registered in January of 1967).
She is running a CDI box (very well hidden on the rear bulkhead, behind the air box) and I've fitted a pair of early 'V' blade Hella 128's (although not had time to wire them up ) which in themselves are worth a fortune.
She has things like a '66 911S handbook (sourced at HUGE cost but worth it - they didn't print many in 66 in English ). What's so special about LYV?
- MOT's (UK road worthy certification) from 1983 suggest the mileage was 28,301 and it's climbed gently since then to around 41,000 at present - she has never been 'restored' that I'm aware of - only renovated in the 90's so it is quite possible the mileage is genuine. I would never sell it as such - it's impossible to know - but she doesn't drive as a 140,000 mile car
- all of the precious and irreplaceable details are still there - deco trims on the rear trim panels, correctly detailed (NOT over polished!) 4.5's, Webber 'S' stamped IDA carbs, not the later IDS's (Webber hadn't finished making them when the first cars shipped is the story I heard).
- she's been photographed for Total 911, Octane, Classic & Sportscar etc., etc. in the UK and I have several CD's of these photo shoots and the original magazines.
- she drives so beautifully - I can't explain it but I've been lucky enough to drive dozens of early cars including a large number of SWB's. The gear change is smooth and precise, the throttle is delicate, the handling compliant and fun - I've been lucky to own many (many!) SWB's and LYV is by a million miles the best driving - I guess because she's just as she should be.
Is she perfect? Far from it. Is she concours? Definitely not.
She is matching numbers and has mostly her original body panels - I've never known another like this.
The dilemma I have is that she's doesn't need restoration - and if you did restore her now then the patina would be lost. Personally, I'd just keep doing what I've been doing - driving her
The interior carpet was ratty (as you'd expect after 40 plus years!) so I had Southbound (the UK specialist Porsche trimmers) replace it with the remains of what I think was the last original roll from the factory (I'd kept it 'just in case').
Rather than expressing my opinion - if you're seriously looking for a very early, RHD 911S which has no 'stories', is as she left the factory and complete with all the correct and original parts - come and have a look. Drop me a pm or email pmjt at mac.com (figure it out!)
She's in storage here in Hampshire in the South of the UK if anyone wants to come and have a look. I'm more than happy to help with shipping anywhere in the World and have friends in New Zealand and Australia who can assist - if there's interest from there.
I'm sad she's going but I just can't justify keeping her as in the past fourteen months she's been out once.
Oh, new MOT the other month - flew straight through - she out braked the modern car on the testers ramp just before!
Price? Offers around £44,995 please.
