    FS: '70 signal Orange 911E

** NO LONGER FOR SALE **

I will be putting information on my web site over the weekend. The basics:

o I'm the 4th owner. The 2nd owner had it from 1973 to 2006. He lived in Colorado and was a complete fanatic. Their is a log book with every thing noted and a huge book of documentation.

o Full and expensive rebuild a few years and 20K miles ago.

    o Just turned 100K (documented)

    o No visible rust.

    o Sport seats

o S Trim (but fiberglass front spoiler - I know where there is a steel one for around $900).

o Beautiful Signal Orange paint. One high quality respray several years ago.

o Rebuilt 901, all gears smooth except 2nd synchro going up is balky.

Need to fund a top of the world restoration of my '67 Softie.

    Cheers,
    JohnA

Beautiful car John. Quick question: Are those pipes running along the bottom of the passenger rockers A/C hoses or a front oil cooler set-up?

It really is a beautiful car.

Those pipes are for a front mounted trombone oil cooler. The car does have factory air conditioning but it has been removed. All of the original components are still with the car.

Here's some additional information from the previous owner:

Body: Signal Orange, original color. Very high end repaint by one of Denver's best shops in 1997. Still looks amazing. Extensive clear bra has kept the front nearly perfect in the 10k miles since.

Interior: Very respectable shape. Original sport seats with orange plaid inserts. Has an incorrect dash but I have a very presentable correct one I can include. Original carpet has shrunk slightly at the rocker panels and the basket weave vinyl is bad around the original radio. I have the original steering wheel but it needs some re-stitching.

Engine: 2.2 with MFI. Engine was completely rebuilt by Storz Garage in 1997, again 10K miles ago. Rebuild included new P's and C's, align bore by Competition Engineering, cams, crank, rockers and rods reconditioned. All new bearings. MFI pump rebuilt by H and R Fuel Injection, LTD. Stacks rebuilt by Beiker Engineering. Engine has SSI's. The case is unstamped and was when my friend bought the car. Indicates that the factory replaced the engine in the car's first six months under warranty.

Transmission: Rebuilt at the same time but grinds slightly now on second to third upshifts if done quickly.

Suspension: Original hydro-pneumatic E front end is replaced with SC parts. Has original S front calipers. Torsion bars are Sanders 22/28mm. I have the original bars also. Rear has Weltmeister sway bar. Wheels are 15x6 Fuchs in good shape.

Very nice car in a wonderful color.

    Cheers,
    JohnA

Curious to know why a 2.2E would have a front cooler. Has the motor been upgraded to S spec during the rebuild, or are temps extra warm in your part of the country?
My understanding is that the only cars to get front oil coolers were the 2.2-2.4S's
BTW, that oil cooler is very desirable and should be seen as a valuable upgrade.....

I bought the car about three months ago and it was delivered last week. In the interval I also acquired a top-of-the-world '72 911T that fills the same niche for me as the Signal Orange '70. It makes sense to sell one of them and I decided to sell the '70.

I have been sorting the car since it arrived and I would classify it as a solid #2. It won a concours in Denver but my sense is that the bar was pretty low. I've become a little obsessed with perfection and correctness and there were a number of minor details (and one big one) that I have been addressing since the car arrived. The big issue is that the struts and shocks seemed worn and I'm replacing them with Bilsteins at all four corners.

The car was owned by the owner previous to one I bought it from (who is located in Denver) from 1973-2006 and he maintained voluminous records - I think he saved every receipt, service record and invoice. After going through the records I see that there was rust repair to the lock posts at the time it was repainted. The section of the driverside post with the manufacturers label was saved and I found it in the parts box. There are no signs of rust on the the car presently. It was dinged on the passenger side behind the door and the repairs appear to have been done well.

It's a truly outstanding car, well represented by the seller. I've decided to sell it for three reasons: I prefer the 2.4 over the 2.2 for the type of driving that I do with a car in this niche; I prefer the 915 over the 901 for the same reason; the '72T is just crazy top-of-the-world nice - and I've been involved with it indirectly and directly for over eight years.

I plan on taking pictures this weekend. My asking price for the car covers the acquisition price plus other expenses such as shipping and the current futzing around.

    Cheers,
    JohnA

Bought one of John's cars (72S Targa) and it was all he said and more. Would buy from John with absolute confidence.

    Good luck with the sale.
