    Facet fuel pumps-Shipping Damage

Here are a couple pics of the first delivery and the second one they sent me. From WI. These don't always have dents on top do they?

These are the "Blue Top" #480534. I have an Italian Petrol King regulator coming Tuesday. So I guess I could try for another pump. Racer Parts wants about $50 more, and I am thinking it would be worth it if they could ship it correctly.

One of these probebly would work, but since I am sort of troubleshooting, shouldn't I have one that has been protected during shipping? Anyhow, I thought I would post the pics.

    Facet fuel pump

Here is a pic of the same part number, but it looks different. Could there be different grades or something of pumps of the same model #? Racerparts also have the "silver top" 476087. I thought I had this figured out I think I will be going with another store. AND I will be calling this order in.

Those pumps are damaged goods. The tops are to be rounded with NO dents. Facet are good fuel pumps and go the distance. The drop side is that they can be noisy and rattle. Here is the secret to dampen the noisy and rattle. You need to install a rubber damper of some sort the fit's between the Facet bracket and body panel. Best wishes.

    Facets

I agree the pumps you have are certainly damaged and I would return them.

There are 3 different types of Facet, Blue Top, Silver Top and Red Top.

The Red Top and Blue Top have the highest delivery and generally the highest pressure. (Blue Tops and the most expensive but I am not sure why)

I am reasonably sure that Porsche used the Silver top which can be ordered in two versions - 30 US gallons/hr 4.5-5.5psi or 35 US gallons/hr 6-7psi

The Blue Top is 6-8psi and can deliver 40 US Gallons/hr

The delivery is quoted into an open tank.

I tend to buy Silver top pumps but have them fitted with a different pressure cut off at 2.5psi and then there is no need to fit a pressure regulator which is a bit tidier.

Which one would be the one to use with Solex Carbs and no fuel reg., silver, blue or red?

    My workshop manual says 900cc/min.

    Any idea.

    Thanks,

    Bendix Pumps

    John,

We have used Silver tops for this application 30 US gallons/hour is 1925cc/min and is more than adequate. I think a 2.5psi cut off is adequate as the 1965 manual describes the pump as being 0.28 to 0.33 atm which is 4-5 psi in approximate terms. I think that pump jets could leak at 5psi and alter float height.

If you have an FIA Race engine revving to 8000rpm it may need a 'Red Top' for a bit more flow and again we have used these with a modified pressure cut off.

We are just about to try a circuit with a Red Top pumping fuel directly to the fuel rail on the inlet of the Solexes.

We will connect a fuel line between the normal fuel inlet to the resevoirs so they are connected.

We will ditch the floats completely and use 2 x Motor Works Universal Pumps to pull fuel from the bottom of the reservoirs and return it to the tank.

This should keep the spill tubes full and not create any significant pressure.

If you look closely at the pump you can see that Facet moved the wire from a metal standoff equidistant between the outlets to a grommet closer to a single outlet. Also those pumps are likely 1/8"NPT, the originals were M12x1.5.

We should contact Purolator/Facet and have them make a couple hundred "original" pumps-- I wonder if the market is there?

    Facet Pumps

I still have a few of the older style pumps that we used on various Rally cars years ago and but I think that they have and an NPT fitting.

I would be interested in a few of the earlier style - up to 10 depending on final price.

    Facet Pumps

I asked my supplier in Scotland if he would be able to supply to the old style and he said he believed it was impossible due to current legislation !!!

There are some aftermarket pumps, however, and although they may be slightly inferior quality they may be helpful.

I think they will still have 1/8 NPT threads but may be a step closer.

I also just ordered 10 off replicas of the original German Bendix Stickers for the pump.

I can buy these pumps in the UK for about $65 each but I guess they will be cheaper from The Racer's Edge.
