    1968 911T with S Motor - Anything Correct

I've run across this car close to me that might make a nice SWB hot rod but I'm really not sure how badly it's been butchered.

It's been owned since 1980 by the same guy and was repainted at that time. There's a blister under the rear window and I haven't seen it to know how bad the body really is.

The motor was installed prior to 1980 but the history and origin are unknown. The interior and steel wheels with caps make it seem that it's an old hot rod rather than any sort of race car.

It obviously has the wrong bumpers and only two deep sixes are with it but it apparently is a T with an S motor. I thought 911L cars were only imported in 68?

Be ruthless in what right and not right for a 68.

    Thanks

Look at the photos in this thread to find the proper engine #'s, and please report them.
The VIN is for a Karmann T coupe. Pretty rare in this country. You had me excited for a moment there though. Lets see, an S engine in a 68 911T, that could be a TR, but with a Karmann body, I think that is highly unlikely. Still, post some more info and lets see what you actually have found. Post a photo of the Karmann paint code badge please.

Only the 911 and 911L were imported into the US in 68. The 911T was a ROW model similar to our 911 model, but with a 110 horsepower engine instead of our 130.

It's got the correct 68.5 three bar engine grille and decklid, correct door panels with no speaker holes, nice wood steering wheel and batwing horn button. What kind of price on this?

I see some things to fix, but overall it looks like a fun hot rod. Few things:

    1. Gauges, moving left to right:

-fuel level gauge is for a 911T or regular 911.
-oil pressure/temp gauge is from a US market 911S or 911L, or Sportomatic car.
-Tach is redlined for 911T motor.
-MPH speedo has been changed from original KM/H one.
    -Clock, same for all.

    2. I'd kill for that steering wheel.

    3. You know about the bumpers and those areas already.

    4. Since it has no heater slides inside and no ducting from the engine to the heat exchangers, it's probably got headers. That might be an issue if you wanted heat until you put that right again.

    5. Dash might be hacked up for that radio, but tough to see.

Overall, the other '68 model year stuff looks good as mentioned- door panels, fenders, etc. Again, neat!

Agree, because they are LWB fenders.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

euro rear right hand lens and us rear left hand lens. both correct for 68 though, their housings are therefore almost certainly correct.
edit: but the larger chrome trim on the orange one looks weird. might be the photo.

My car looked just like that, updated rear lic plate panel and RS front bumper, when I bought it.
Note the non speaker hole door panel and no sagging pockets!

    Cool find

Euro only car, so headrests are not correct but definitely vital for safety reasons.
