    Shipping 911 to Europe?

Does anyone have any experience / advice on shipping a 911 to Europe from San Francisco or New York? Thinking of shipping the 67S rally car out for the London Casablanca Rally in November.

Looking into shipping my 'new' SC from San Fran, I spoke to a number of companies. Schumacher were recommended to me by a few people; I talked to Joel there and ended up getting a fairly good deal.

Someone else then put me on to Doug at Able Cargo in Compton who beat that price, so I will go with Doug, shipping from LA after the Ventura Show. Doug uses Kingstown to handle the unloading at this end, and they are OK guys to work with too.

Everyone I spoke to was shipping from LA, though they could transport the cars down from San Fran by road easily enough.

I could suggest to use Aladdin freight out of Oakland (510.533.0400)

Kristine Highsmith runs a very well organized shipping company. Her control on the paperwork trail is outstanding! The guys loading the cars all speak English and handle the cars w/ the utmost care unlike other shippers I have been in the past ..

I do not know who will unload the car at the port of destination since that could be a risk factor that I am not familiar w/.

I am not associated w/ Aladdin but very pleased w/ the cars they have shipped/ ship for me and my friends.

BTW I come to realize that a few years ago Aladdin recommended shipping w/ Able too when I had a 914/6 that had to be shipped out of LA. I believe they started out together.

One thing I recommend if the car is picked up then taken to the port. Make sure to get a copy of the drivers license of the driver that picks up the car. Most are subcontractors that work with the shipping company and the car could just vanish without a trace.

I use a UK based company called CARS UK to transport cars around Europe. They are a specialised historic car shipper who are very professional. Last time they dropped my Jaguar off the lorry contained a 250SWB, a 250TDF and a DB4 Zagato (unfortunately none of them were mine ) so they are well trusted. When I bought my 911 they shipped it from LA to Zurich for me and everything went perfectly. David Brown (+44 1284 850950) is the guy who deals with the US and is well worth a call.

    Cheers, Mike

I also know someone who uses CARS to ship his (fairly valuable) stuff around the place and am 99% sure he would recommend them. I like dealing with Doug though - he is always there, straight back on email and I have every confidence in the safety of my $8K SC
