Question for the soft window targa crowd

What are you thoughts on this car? It has been on Ebay three times now, anyone familiar with it?

    Thank you,

Looks like a nice honest car, but they state that's original except for touch ups... and I would guess that it's had a respray (at least in the rear) as the area under the grill in the rear as it's body color instead of black. I'm sure the black hood stripes aren't helping the car....

Just to add to E's thoughts...I would be thinking about:

    • Putting the engine compartment back to original (airbox, plug wires, etc)
    • Putting the wheels back to stock (I stand to be corrected on this one)
    • Painting out the black stripes
    • Preparing for other things I can't see in the picture (the attached picture is slightly concerning)

$70K plus the above is a lot (unless you avoid the above and would like to just drive another's car with minor customization). The market continues to speak.

    soft window targas'

This seems to be sorted out with a few personalized twists. Personally I like stripes, but not this style. I really believe all soft-window cars are the next Speedsters' as far as collectability. 2 1/2 production run and absolutely perfect CA roadster, NOT to say also "sexy". The Polo red color will be very hard to match if a buyer elects to rid the stripes. I think the seller has put a very reasonable starting price on this car and the interior really came out nice. Good luck to the seller

The wheels are the correct 4.5's...at least from what I can see! Iphone image is rather small

I'll see if I can post a picture of my polo red 67s of the data plate..., and I agree from initial look that "IS" a little disturbing, and I'd use that as an excuse to get closeups of the rocker areas particularly right behind the front wheels, as that area looks a little sketchy from the pics... If those areas look good, then you can dismiss the area around the data plate.

Thanks Eric. I was second-guessing myself on that one. Were all 4.5 x 15 wheels on 67's un-painted?

Well, they are actually painted, it's just the area around the point of the opening and encompasses the bolt hole area.

Here's a good view on this ebay wheel:
