Just for grins - guesstimates to restore this 73S Targa

Early S Man's 1973 911S Targa with 69K miles. Signal yellow with brown leather interior/houdstooth inserts. Stored partially disassembled in a west Texas garage since the early eighties.

    Exterior
Quarters had been cut for turbo flairs, but I had stock quarter cutoffs professionally reattached. Has had one repaint.

    Mechanical
Engine not run since the 80's, but original MFI and all parts still there. Condition unknown but assume rebuild.

    Body
No rust in pans, rear seats, rear deck, rockers, battery boxes, fender attachement flanges or gas tank support. Only rust is in bottom of doors.

    Interior
Interior is all there with exception of carpet. Dash good with small crack @ speaker.

Just for grins, ballpark some restorations costs to make her a driver.

It looks to be in actually really good shape compared to what I started with. I think $30k will be plenty actually. I think closer to $25k if you are careful and dont go wild on the engine rebuild.

Thanks Marconi - that's where I had guessed as well. Warren had collected a pretty complete set of new rubber for Annie and done a suspension refresh, so that helps.

I think the answer to question is always the same: $5,000 to $75,000 (or more) depending on how good job you want to do. It can easily cost $15k just to get paint on it, and another $15k, for the engine and trans. if its an S you might want to put in sport seats, so figure a least $7k for the interior. Then i would double that figure to cover all the other junk like seals, badges, powercoat, plating, wheels, brakes suspension, etc.. In the end you'll have a car worth $80K- $100K.

Good luck. A good paint job $15K; body work $10K; engine & transmission $10-$15K; suspension, wheels, tires $5K; interior $5K; seats (factory $5K, GTS $2K); misc. $10K. And if you want a REALLY good restoration add another $20K.

Have fun and don't add it up. It's a love affair.
