You could spare yourself a LOT of grief by going straight to TLG, which is probably where you'll end up ANYWAY...
So you may as well go straight there.

GONE...MANY, many great ones....
I used Scientific in May for a PPI and they were very thorough. Bought an unrestored 1971 911T. Ask for Jack.

Thanks all. I'm hoping to stay local to the San Gabriel Valley area so Carrera 6 or Scientific would be ideal. I think the car actually has a Scientific sticker in the engine compartment from the 70s-80s! She started up fine, ran very good and appears to mostly need bodywork so Carrera 6 would be ideal if you guys think they also do fine mechanical work. Would love to hear from anyone who's used them. Their website shows a few very nice RSRs that were featured in Excellence and the articles seems to suggest the owner is very knowledgeable.
Callas Rennsport in Torrance is second to none in my opinion. Been a happy customer for over 15 years.
All the greenies for Modern Specialist are there since I have never met a more truthful and fair shop before! I use to live in Long Beach 10 years ago and now I live in Temecula. I still drive to have them do work on my car when needed.

glad I learned something new
Sorry to butt in with a hijack, but...since WHEN does this smiley evoke sarcasm??? I always thought it was just a huge grin...which is how I always used it...someone help me out here. It just blows my mind to think I've been sending the wrong impression/vibes on all my posts around here.
An answer to this one would be good...now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Thanks for the help
Cheers

Having been in Pasadena for 31 yrs, and owning a business there for the same amount of time, and owning Porsches during this time......just go to TLG and spare yourself "lots" of being pissed off. Not only that, but you will be happy and you'll get to meet two great guys !

Though I'm not in Socal now, I've done business with both TLG and Scotts Independent, and recommend both very highly. Both shop's owners are members here as well, and they are really really good people.
For interior work, though you didn't ask, the best in my opinion is Tony's Autobahn in San Diego. For body work I recommend Centennial Collision in Boulder Colorado.... not kidding, he's also a member here, and has done a 911 for another member here as well. The work is excellent and he's reasonably priced. Here's some of his work:
