    Push/Pull Clutch Cable Tension Question

    Adjusting push/pull clutch cable tension

A few months ago I replaced my clutch cable when the plastic cable end failed.
I set the tension, with the clutch pedal depressed, measuring 1" from the cable end to the back of the transmission case. At first I experienced smooth, positive gear selection, 1st to reverse and especially downshifting from 2nd to 1st. Now selection is sloppy. Going from 1st to 2nd is a fishing expedition trying to avoid what sounds like I'm clipping reverse.[B] I checked the distance from the cable end and back of the transmission case still 1"

    Appreciate your input.

From what you describe "fishing expedition", "selection is sloppy" it sounds like a shift coupler probem, bad bushings or combo. I have used the 911 transaxle on many applications and have ran into the same problem. If all the shifter mech was ok I just adjusted the cable until it did fully disengage not concerning myself about the 1".

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.

George, it does sound like the coupling under the plate at the back of the center tunnel.. Or the small coupling under the shift lever might have finally given up the ghost.. Good luck tracing it down. Bob
