    Tires!

My brother stopped by the shop this morning and we were looking on-line for tires for his car. Checked out easy-tire.com for 225/60-16. The good news is our search returned 245 different tires to choose from.

The bad news is these were the tire MANUFACTURERS

    Nankang
    Nexen
    National
    Sunny
    Sonny
    Wanli
    Triangle
    Maxtrek
    Yartu
    Haida
    Westlake
    GT
    Diamondback
    Mastercraft
    Blue Streak
    Milestar
    Rotalla
    Starfire
    Doral
    Achilles
    Federal
    BCT
    Atlas
    Runway
    Cordovan
    Kenda
    Aurora
    Dean
    Remington
    Eldorado
    Riken
    Laramie
    Medalist
    Cavalier
    Captial
    Republic
    Hero
    American
    Sigma
    Vogue

I wonder how many of these are Chinese .....

Who would name a tire company "Achilles"? If tires are the shoes of a car, does this not send the wrong message?

Riken is made in Indonesia, if that helps.

Is his car a Porsche? Does he drive it all season, even in light snow? Then here is a Michelin for him:

The point that there is a lack of good sticky summer tires in classic Porsche sizes is a good one.

I noticed that the Tire Rack was now placing in the specs section about the tire... in the far right column is the country of origin in a two letter code and when you run the mouse over it you see the country name....

I'm as amazed by how many different tire brands are available in the US, as I am that many (most?) are from China.

These are for a '05 Cadillac DeVille ... we have slightly different tastes in cars

One of the few that I recognize is Kenda, who make OEM tires for some Japanese motorcycles. I would guess you are right - mostly Chinese.
