    Everyone needs a hobby...

Wow Jens, from the title I thought it might be another installment regarding the Man from Montana.

That's a pretty intense collector dude, though... guess everyone needs a hobby!

    Talking I know!

Too many duplications!... and, and, wtf is up with including front engine cars?! Mus' be a nerd or something.

The purist only has cars with motors in the back (except for transporters). The 356, Spyder, Speedster, Roadster, 901, 911, 912, R, T/R, S/T, RS, RSR, 904, 906, 907, 908, 909, 910, 914, 917, and on and on.

I only have 1700 or so in my collection, all with motors in the back. From 1/2 in long to full scale 1/1. You see, I'm normal and not nuts.

    no, really........

A friend here in Mich owns a large diecast shop ( Sportcraftcars.com ) and I was at his shop many years ago when he was packing a large box for shipment to Hawaii. He was telling me about this customer who basically had a standing order for every Porsche model that came into the shop - even 2 or 3 of the same model as long as the packaging was different or maybe a variance in decals or whatever. He showed me pics of the guy's house and he actually had a separate building to house his collection. Anyway, the guy moved to Texas and, as I recall, he filled 2 shipping containers just with his collection (30,000+ models) And I thought I had a problem when my collection reached 600.

I'm a total purist, met Ferry Porsche in 1973 and I own a transporter with a boxer motor in da back, under there some where...

On with the thread. This is to certify I'm a model collectin' nerd or something like that.

I collect and convert Tamiya 1/10 scale Radio Controlled Porsche 911 GT2s and GT3 bodies specifically. Currently working on a terd brown and gold 2002 911 GT3 UPS replica .

Back in December 2005, I designed and painted a 1995 24 of Le Mans Lillian Bryner Tissot replica 911 GT2 and made the Tamiya Builders showcase!

    Nice work Thompson.

Curt, thirty-four-thousand!?! Wholey Crapski, that's downright compulsive. Still, I'd love to cherrypick that collection.

Wow, I just read thru that interview and he says he's invested "just under $2 million" in the collection. Now I dunno about you, but personally I might choose ... oh, say a real 917 or something. But that's just me.

Anyway, he's selling the cars off on eBay:

Curt, I didn't make the connection, but I didn't do the reading either.

Hank's got some neat stuff. $2 million is a hell of a lot of money though. Had he invested the money all these years, with a fairly decent return, that money would likely have been in the $100s of millions as of last year... and maybe $200.00 today! As nuts as it seems, at least he has something tangible in hand that he really enjoys (but, I hope he has a real life outside of collecting ).

Hmmm, $2 million bucks sure would build a lot of real cars. R, T/R, S/T, RSR, and I've always wanted a 904!
