Thread: WTB 69-73 MFI fuel pump

    WTB 69-73 MFI fuel pump

I just called the dealer to order a MFI fuel pump. That is after I exhausted every other aftermarket source. They seem to be NLA ! How can this be? Vertex had a "rebuilt" unit in stock that I bought just in case this was true. I am surprised I haven't seen a thread about this. What are people to do if they drive a 69-73 911 S or E. Park it?
One of the major west coast wholesalers said they heard that someone was selling some NOS units on ebay, but I found nothing.
I am looking for new, not used.

    Hi Rick

As I understand it, sadly it is true.

I have been told it is a Bosch issue (ie parts supplier) not Porsche per se (as Porsche and others have explained it to me). I find it hard to believe that they have stopped making them but that is the word.......at present at least.

A couple of years ago i replaced mine and the price was steep, i thought, however soon after that here in Australia it went up to over $1300 per unit (more than double what i paid). Luckily i kept my old one as I understand that the only way to get a "new" one (apart from what might be in a persons NOS stash) is to have the core rebuilt.

I have always been skeptical of rebuilt units - or ones that have been used but then stored, as unless they are like new all through they can jam up soon after installation. However I am currently looking at who can do a perfect full rebuild on these (like Gus can do on the MFI system as a whole) - here in Australia if possible then elsewhere if necessary.

While on this sort of subject I am hearing rumors that other "disposable" or maintenance parts may go the same way. While I have not any evidence, one essential part that has been mentioned in this context is the fuel filter for the MFI engines. Imagine a world where we don't have them!

I have never been in a habit of stockpiling these sort of parts but maybe it is now time to think about that

Can the fuel pump from an MFI Mercedes Benz be made to work in this application?

My original post should have been a continuation of the link that was just posted. I didn't think I was the only one who found this problem. My rebuilt will be her etoday from Vertex, I'll report what I get.

    Another daunting situation......

I purchased one of the last 'rebuilds' from Performance in about '06 for a spare... I think they said they had two more left at the time. It's in my 'emergency bag', along with other hard to get stuff, in the trunk....

After re-reading both of these threads, if/when the time comes, I sure hope the thing works......

During my 35+ years of dealing with these cars, I have come across many NLA parts. But a FUEL PUMP !! I guess Porsche wants these cars to die off.
