H1 Chrome headlight rings question??

Does anyone know if the chrome headlight rings are interchangeable between the pre-1968 narrow sealed beam rings and the wider 1968 unsealed beam rings? I have the wider ones but like the narrower ones better and am hoping to just swap the rings instead of having to buy whole new housings.

The headlight on the picture is 356. 356 have a tab through which the screw goes, 911 through the ring.

The ring of a 356 is also smaller than a 911/912 (65-67). The 68 ring is much wider than 65-67.

BTW a H1 (911, 69-71) is another different ring, it has 4+1 holes instead of 2+1.

To sum it up. 4 different rings which are not interchangeable w/o modifications (that I know).

The housings are interchangeable between the 67s and 68s, though, correct e.g. the 67 headlight assemby WILL fit in a 68 fender without mods?

Yes, complete headlight 65-67 can be used in 68 fender buckets too. As a matter of fact I think that all headlights 65-89 are interchangeable although it might look weird.

I think so too. There are subtle differences in the buckets, but the hanging method and dimensions are the same AFAIK. In fact, other than the mounting screw position, even VW buckets are the same size (like a 356).
