    '68 911L SWT Carpet???

The '68 911L Softie that I've been spending time on is coming along better than expected. But what an odd-ball year! Side markers, 5 1/2" wheels, elephant hide, recessed button door handles, etc...

I've researched what the correct carpet was for this little red-headed stepchild and I haven't been able to come up with anything definitive. Is it:

    o Perlon
    o Velour
    o Square Weave

or something else? Was it always black/gray? Thanks for the help!

    Cheers,

Good question. My 68 normal coupe came originally with red interior, but had been redone before I got the car. It now shows red carpet with the original rubber mats, but I'm not sure that it originally came with the red carpet. With that said, the original red rear seat backs when folded down show the original red carpet is still attached to the backs of them.

I've owned two 68s, T and L, both had Perlon.

    68 swt

Last time I visited 1394racing he had the original carpet set from a 1968 SWT that was a 911 (not 911L) that he parted out.

The original carpet set he had from his '68 911 SWT was perlon.

I have a USA "base" 911 and it has the original interior, the carpet is thin perlon.

    '68 911L SWT Carpet???

John, my take is that since the 68 U.S. 911L was a 911S in all respects other than engine I'm sure it came with the S trim level,ie. velour carpet in charcoal.
