    SWB seat mount question

Is there a standard dimension between the seat rails of a SWB car through the years? Is there a difference between this dimension and the first couple of years of LWB cars? I sold a pair of seats to a guy, last year, that came from a 1971. He wanted to put them in a 1968 Targa. Last night he called to say they won't fit. He said the sliders on the seats purchased from me are apparently 1 1/4" wider than the rails mounted on the floor of the car. Does this sound correct? Thank you in advance.

I was just playing this game. I have a 1972 911 and 1968 911 and the seat spacing and slider spacing is identical. The rails should be 16 inches apart, center to center.
Check this guy's application chart which states that 65 -73 take the same brackets. I suspect that they are the same thru much of the rest of the years, as I think that the seat belt attachment is the only reason for the part number change. I have a set of this guy's brackets and they are dead on.

The seat locking mechanism changes sides from the SWB to the LWB cars. This has nothing to do with the track dimension. I have heard that you can swap seat bottoms (passenger for driver), so the locking tabs are in the correct position. There are other differences between the years regarding the hinges and the tilt mechanisms.

This is correct. I have a pair of '70 seats and just swapped the backrest to install the driver's side bottom to the passenger side in my '68 because of the locking tabs. I have a sport seat on the left side, but I'm sure the '70 passenger standard seat would fit the same way.
