    Chrome Trim on Dash - '68 L

I think this is the same with later years as well.

The basket-weave panels on the dash appear to be sandwiched by the thin chrome (chrome appearing anyway) trim strips on the tops and bottoms. Couple of questions:

    (1) Are the strips glued to the basket-weave material and then the entire panel glued to the dash?

    (2) I have the basket-weave material - are the chrome strips available?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,

It is polished aluminum. The aluminum is a flat piece with a thicker edge top and bottom forming the "strips". There is a small groove on the inside edge of the "strips" that the basket-weave extends into. The is also how the radio delete plate is - a thin steel plate with basket weave glued to it that slides into the grooves and covers the cutout in the aluminum where the radio goes.

The aluminum is attached to the dash with double sided foam tape about 5/16" wide and 1/16" thick. I have seen the aluminum for sale here in the parts section.

I might have some of the pieces but probably not all and not NOS.

Don - thanks for the input. My car looks to be a bit different than what you describe. The aluminum (thanks) strip on the bottom is one piece that goes all the way across - there is no seperation for the glove box door. Does a '68 have one piece fascia that covers the entire dash?

Also, do you know where to obtain the aluminum strip or maybe the best way to fabricate it?

    Cheers,
