Help me pick wheels/tires for my '68!!

I have a dilemma. This winter I will finish my underside redo and suspension
rebuild on my 68. I will need new tires also, and I'm not sure what to get. So
    please give
me your vote if you can.

    1. 5.5 steelies with 165r15 tires. Original configuration for the car.
    2. Current flat 6" Fuchs with 195/65 15 tires. Current config.
    3. Current flat 6" Fuchs with 185/70 15 tires. More period correct to 1970s
    era.

    1, 2 or 3? Help!!

You left out the second-best option: 5.5x15 deep Fuchs. A bit more money than steel or flat sixes, but the 5.5" width is perfect under a SWB car.

Yep 5.5 Fuchs would be good for the future but I already have the flat 6's and don't want to shell out the cash for 5.5s just yet.

2 and 3 are obviously least expensive...just tires. If you not driving the call all-out, I personally think 185s will "look" more correct, especially in a vintage tread pattern.

But after getting Vredestein 165x15s for my chromed steelies...can't be beat... Something about it is just "right"

I had been running an inexpensive set up 5.5x14s with 185s. Nice riding--I guess they don't call it the Comfort Option for nothing. Rubber is getting a little old, so I'll probably have to replace them in a year or two. But probably won't go wider than 185s.

Disclaimer...I don't track the car or flog it around, so maximum performance isn't really what I'm after.

Here is what I'm putting on my 67 Ho Ho Silver which will be mounted with Goodyear Eagle GT 195/65/VR15's. They are 951 Space Saver forged aluminum. Weigh 10.5 pounds each.

If that 3.6 makes the back too squirlly I'll roll the fenders and change to Fuchs - Sixes in front and Seven's in rear.

Roger - thanks. I am torn between vintage cool/vibe with 165 and modern feel with 195's.

The flat sixes are cool, but they are not period correct for '68....and that kind of bugs me.

Bill, those wheels are very cool, I've never seen that done on a 911. 356's, yes, 911, no.

There needs to be a "None of the above"

Painted steel with no hub caps is my vote.

I vote for the steelies with no caps.

I like the current setup although I prefer more tire in the rear[205/65] if they fit. I think 165s are not safe on a 911.

I'd offer another option: 185/70s or 195/65s on 5.5 steelies. Hubcaps optional.
