    CA Black Plate DMV Protocol

    Does anyone know the process for checking whether a set of black plates is "Clear" to use. Can this be done by phone or online? Maybe AAA? Has anyone been thru this procedure?

    If this is for your '68, as you mentioned in another thread, keep in mind that when you go into DMV for your YOM plate registration, you must have the correct 1968 pink sticker with black lettering in the upper right corner of the rear plate. The proper or correct letter/number sequence of the plate is not an issue, but the registration sticker for the same year as the model car they are to be used on is a requirement.

    Hey thanks Ted. I did find that out. I bought a 68 pink tag off of ebay for $10. The plates I bought show a latest tag of 1981, which means there are 13 tags over each other. I can actually see a tell tail sign of the pink tag at the bottom. But I've got my work cut out for me in removing all of those tags. My DMV appointment is for this Wednesday.
