    Those were the days...

Kinda fun to pick apart this vintage factory photo...

    • No assembly line
    • Two workers completing one engine
    • Smoking while working
    • Cool posters in the work area
    • Great sideburns!

This is actually a great photo from many perspectives.

The assembly "line" is the steel tube that allows the P201 to move down the bench as the engine goes through various stages of completion.

One piece fiberglass air duct must make it a '72 E motor.

Good shot illustrating the correct placement of the fan strap bolts. I always see these in different positions on the engine.

MFI pump on the engine first before throttle bodies

Wonder what the huge red-handled prybar is all about?

    Possible corollary...

I used to work in a motorcycle shop as a kid. The owner (and long-time friend) had a great saying:

"If you can't get it to work, hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't work, it was broken anyway!"

Good shot illustrating the correct placement of the fan strap bolts. I always see these in different positions on the engine. Looks as though the position is just a natural placement from the work stand and just installed!!

Here is an early factory photo of Franz Blam when he was an engineer with Porsche and another one of him a month ago at his shop. Franz is doing the 3.6 conversion to my 67 SWB.

I also like the dot hanging out of his mouth. I don't smoke but I appreciate a time when there wasn't a GD law for everything.
