    steering wheel removal?

    Does anyone know the size of the steering wheel nut on a 66 911?Heading out to buy a socket the right size but have no idea which size to get..my current set goes up to 24mm..Thanks.

    There were 2 sizes of nut used - 24mm & 27mm.

    If your 24mm socket is too small you must have the 27mm nut.

    I use american size 1 1/16" deep, works well

    BTW - When you go to loosen the nut be sure you are pushing down. You do not want the wrench handle to fly up and break your windshield. Also, be sure you have something to hold the steering wheel so it does not turn. I am not sure if your 66 has a steering column lock but do not use that to hold the wheel steady as you loosen the nut.

    Leave the nut on about 3-4 thread when you break it free. This will assist in keeping your nose on your face when you start pulling on it to remove it.

    It's happened more than a few times. Busted lips, noses and foreheads.
