Digging this thread up from the past...Here's a few shots of how are relatively unmolested 73 looks underneath. Interesting how the Sepia continues on the underside on the vertical "down" parts of the pan, but not the horizontal parts--looks like the paint gun was never pointed up...always horizontal as the factory shot the rockers.

    Another revival.

I needed to find the cutoff point for undercoating on the outer rocker, so I checked out an original paint '73. The cutoff is about 23-26mm from the door opening edge.

This may be useful to someone,

The car is a 73S; the DOT sticker reads 5/73. The underside is completely original, its only been washed. There are definite differences for the previous 72 images. The front & rear wheel wells were sprayed body colour (not overspray) with the exception of the very bottom sections which are painted black. These sections met the bottom edge of the outer rocker panels under the alloy trim piece. The paint in the wheel wells is fairly intense & appears to have some clearcoat applied. The trunk & engine compartments have a light coating of base colour but no obvious clear coat.

The brown stains appear to be from an oil based material. They could be from some aftermarket treatment but I'm not certain. Perhaps someone who's seen more shells could comment?
