Replacing 1968 Aluminum Dash Facia with Basketweave?

If I replace the existing aluminum brushed facia trim on my 1968 hot rod with a set of 1967 basketweave 911S facia trim, are there any surpises I should anticipate?

One specific puzzler: I notice the 67S basketweave trim pieces have small mounting dowels on the back side, whereas I'm pretty sure the aluminum trim bits are just glued in place, correct? So if I remove the aluminum veneer trim will I find the holes in my dash for attaching the earlier basketweave facia trim?

    Thanks in advance!

    These are the mounting dowels

And here are the mounting dowels I see on the reverse side of the 1967S dash basketweave trim panels.

Has anyone here on the Registry tried to swap out the aluminum dash for a basketweave dash?

I pulled the aluminum trim off my project 68 some time ago and couldn't remember any extra holes in the dash. So I went back out to the garage and checked; yes the holes are there under the aluminum trim.

    I did this on my '68. Here's a photo...

    Thanks, Tony & Mike.

I'd better check and see if the lower aluminum trim strip (which I have) will fit on my 1968 knee bolster piece (the piece that runs full width under the dash) -- my 1968 one is padded and thicker than the one in Mike's photo so the aluminum channel trim strip may not fit properly?

    Best Regards,
    Andy

I love the basketweave dash vinyl...was always curious why Porsche used it on the '67 911S, then stopped using it completely for 1968 (elephant hide vinyl was standard on 911S and 911L, aluminum on 911 and 911T), and then brought it back for all models in 1969. Strange stuff.

You could use early trim that has U channels top and bottom.
