    Looking for engine# 900334 for my 64

I know this is like finding a needle in a hay stack and a very slim chance of success, but I still want to give it a try:
When I recently purchased my 1964 with vin 300215 it came without the original motor which according to the COA was 900334.

Would that engine case still be around?????

If anyone could help me in this that would be great! Needless to say that if it would show up I would pay high $$ to get it.

    Thanks, Henk

Hello, I haven't seen that one but try and keep up when things pop up.

I own case 900294, but will keep an eye out for you.

Henk’s post was in ‘09. Lol.
He sold that car quite a while ago.

Just curious: What made you pick that post to reply to? (If your goal is to respond to every post you can’t help with, you have your hands full.)

Good evening, Mr Beck. And a fair question.

I was a former competitive chess player -- so my moves and motivations aren't always obvious; it's more of a complex calculus. But regardless of the thread likely being past its sell-by-date, the network of those with early 901/911 cases and cars is mighty small, n'est-ce pas? If you noticed RE your own posting of your complete '64 motor, I also posted on that thread as well....and that I would prob try and see you in Scottsdale in Oct as I'll be out there for work for a few days.

And though you would not know this, a couple of days ago I sent your ad along to a guy who is looking for a complete 64 motor for his rig and though he is traveling in Japan at the moment, he did respond straight away to me. And I don't even know that guy very well but he said he appreciated it. I do believe in being altruistic when one can and that if you throw bread upon the water good things may come back to you.

So, you see, I have my own parochial interests for posting RE the '64 club to current, would be, and even former owners. And I understand some owners have also been waiting donkeys years to try and find some matching metal so an ancient post means little to me given this particular subject matter.

I'm...unconventional, ok? That doesn't even cover all of my motives and goals but it's still a fairly fulsome response and I hope that it satisfies your curiosity. And, honestly, I don't mind the question at all as I end up surprising people all the time.

    Kind regards,
    James

    Fair enough.

So how did you stumble across the 294 case?

BTW: I appreciate your hearty attitude and candor. I think many people would have been offended and had their feelings hurt by my question.

No worries, Frank. I actually found the case on eBay and thought it would be cool to own an important piece of early Porsche 911 history; so, in some ways it was hiding in plain site. As you know, owning a case has its advantages since moving a 55lb piece of clean aluminum around is childs play vs a complete motor on a skid, etc. I have no illusions of finding the matching chassis but if I ever found an appropriate one I'd consider getting the case back into production (as daunting as that would be to get it kitted out appropriately). You own some great history yourself and I'm hoping to see your motors etc when I'm in your neighborhood starting Oct 3rd.
