Here is some minutia which might be of interest. I had the Glasurit representative measure the paint thickness today for a bare metal repaint on my 911E and the readings were:

Roof 8.3 10.2 9.3 11.3
Hood 9.5 11.7 9.2 13.6
Right fender 5.1 7.9 7.1
Right door 6.4 4.8 5.5 5.5
Right quarter panel 11.1 12.6 7.5 8.9
Engine lid 9.2 11.0 8.5
Left quarter panel 8.5 8.9 7.1 5.2
Left door 6.8 5.1 8.0
Left fender 6.3 6.2 5.4 6.0

These were measured in mils, 1 mil = 25.4 microns, therefore using the lowest thickness of 4.8 X 25.4 = 121.92 microns and the highest reading of 12.6 X 25.4 = 312.42 microns and the average is about 9.0 mils X 25.4 = 228.6 microns. A German friend has stated that the original factory paint was approximately 125 to 175 microns.
