    Correct 67S interior mirror

My very original Aga Blue 67S has a 'long stem' chrome neck w/ blk plastic mirror(very faded-hard to see). Isn't the all chrome mirror and stem found on all '65-67 911/912 correct? I see the there are repops of the all chrome, which are very nice but what is my choice if I want to replace? I see in Brian Long's 911 book the factory pics of the 67S has my mirror. There have been some that say mine is not correct.

Please some help, pics and ideas would help. If correct, if someone has the chrome and black mirror F/S let me know. Thanks.

My '67 normal has the chrome type...but I don't know about the '67S.

We have discussed this previously here without reaching a definitive conclusion. I have the all chrome one on my two 67's because I like them better. This is more grist for the "Is It Original? Are You Sure?" mill.

I owned a 67 S that had a chrome stem and black mirror head setup. This was an all original car.
My 67 normal has the 3 screw head style all chrome mirror.

Recently I was loaned an NOS "old dealer stock" chrome and black "break-away" style chrome and black mirror to photograph. It is in its original wrapping (yellowed and old) with part numbers and other internal tracking data from whatever dealer it came from.
The suffix is "21" and is noted to be for a 67-68 car. My understanding is that there was a cross-over to this style and while it may or may not be correct for your car the break away mirrors appear to be a "one size fits" all as it snaps into place. The locating pins are rounded and there is a center spring that pushes them back out once you "punch" it into place.

I'll post these when I get back to civilization.

Here's a scan of a test report in a German magazine dated August 24th 1966. The red one in the background has as well the chrome/black one

But if you check the sales folder for the 67S, it is all chrome. In the test report here is another picture with the yellow one next to a standard 911 which has the all chrome type.

    '67 S interior mirror

This mirror question has been asked many times before. The pictures tell the story. The regular '67 911 and the '67 912 had a chrome mirror. The '67S had a mirror with the black plastic backing. My '67S has a mirror with black plastic backing. It's old and has some discoloring...but it's the mirror that came with this old '67S originally so I have no plans to replace it...and if you want an original '67S mirror this is what it looks like.

Yes it has been discussed here many times before. I believe the consenus was it COULD have had either. If production line ran out because Heinz brought out a box of all chrome because of a bad hang over, vendor failed to deliver, or they just wanted to get rid of the excess all chrome Porsche used what they had, a typical thing to do for a small company in those days. So if you want an original 67S mirror speced by the engineers it's the black one. If you have an all chrome one and it dosent get your panties in a wad all is well.

I have an all chrome on order anyway. I will try it out. I rather be able to see out the glass. This factory 'interim' unit or Gunter's beer lunch on some US 67S getting these is fine, that is what I thought with these.
This car is totally factory untouched original and quite a find. If I replace the old mirror it will go into 'factory storage' here.

It's just three screws away. Thanks guys.
