What do you use to clean the underside of your car?

tfiv's excellent photos, and great results, posted here: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ad.php?t=30744 lead me to wonder what he used to clean his car.

I use mineral spirits to clean off the old Tectyl and Simple Green to clean off road grime. But I'm not getting results as good as tfiv's.

What have others found to be most effective?

    Tom,

I've used the same as you:

    - Mineral sprits for the original and tuff stuff
    - Simple green for clean-up
    - Then I spray on and wipe off a good coat of 'Lemon Pledge' furniture spray wax:
It seems to make subsequent clean-ups go allot easier

    Hope this helps......

    Cheers

Chuck, from the paint on the nut, it looks like you haven't changed your rear wheel bearings. Can that be true?

Chuck, I think that the underside of your 73 is cleaner than the top of my 71. I've been driving the 71 to work in downtown Boston, and nothing stays clean on these streets.

I use a P&S degreaser/cleaner called hot shot. You can get it or similar products at places that supply automotive detail shops. The hot pressure washer saves lots of time, but I've gotten similar results with a hose, brush and a bunch of time. Finally I spray P&S wire wheel cleaner (acid) mixed half strength. This really brightens everything and is probably the step you are missing. Believe it or not, this will not hurt paint. I wouldn't let it dry however.

A long handled toilet brush and the $10 Harbor Freight pressure washer attachment for air compressors with the feeder tube in a bucket of hot water with a little biodegratable cleaner like Simple Green does great work.
