    shift lockout kit

Weltmeister and maybe some others make a shifter spring kit for 1965-1972 911's that are advertised as high compression springs that "guide the shift lever in the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th shift pattern, preventing accidentally hitting first or reverse". Drilling is required. $50 for the kit.
Has anyone installed these springs? Do they help? Especially on a rapid shift from 1st to 2nd or from 4th to 3rd?
    Thanks

I built one up a long time ago to just try it...all it really does is just make it stiffer...it really doesn't do any sort of lock out function at all...it just adds another set of very stiff springs....I have found that the best thing to do is totally rebuild the whole shift "package" front to rear with new parts....most are still available...I use the stock set up both on the track and street and don't have any problems with it....
I don't do any fast shifting 1st to 2nd since first is so low any way it is just to get going out of the pits or up a mountain...the only difference would be if you were racing with a 904 main shaft and needed higher gears there...
My 2 cents worth....not a very useful option...put your $50 towards better brake pads or tires...or better yet new OEM shifter bushings and parts..

Not sure what Weltmeister does but you need more than springs. Take a look at the Seine Systems kit which I find a real help for a modest price. Makes the fifth to second caper very very difficult, something I find I need.

I'm with jhora, there is nothing wrong with a properly set up stock system, assuming all good bushings and correctly adjusted. I especially don't like the old short shift kits for the 901 as they also shorten the sideways gate as well as the fore/aft gate. I can't speak for the Seine system since I've never tried one. Remember physics dictates that to decrease travel the effort will increase. You have to ask yourself, "do I really need to shift at lightning speed" You may be trying to shift faster than the synchros will take.
