I am offering my '76 go-fast 911 for sale. There's another 911 I have had my eye on that has come available and the only reason I'd sell this one.
Delivered from the factory as a black on tan no sunroof 911S, then the PO commissioned it to be built as a streetable 3.0 RSR clone in the early '80s sporting a slide valve injected motor, 2.8 RSR brakes and suspension, and a wide body.
Exterior: Sometime in the late '80s it was given a slope nose Turbo look, which I have back dated again to '74 RSR style. Fiberglass front and rear bumpers and IROC two grill tail. The front fenders are factory '75 turbo metal and the rear flares are metal too w/ functional metal brake cooling ducts. The paint is very good/excellent on 70% of the body, but there are small holes from screws and some cracks in the paint where horizontal brake ducts fins were mounted. I have one of my body shops lined up to repair this and the work will be done before the new owner takes possession. Originally a bright trim optioned car, someone has painted all trim black. Looks good in the photos, but the finish is too glossy and my plan was to refinish it to matte black. New H4's and all signals, lights, wipers, and horn work. I have found no rust/accident or evidence of any prior rust/accident on the chassis. The wheels are new Jeff Alton/Zuffenhaus 17x 9 and 10.5 Fuchs w/ new Michelin Pilot tires (this is a $5K plus tire/wheel package).
Interior: Super clean and excellent condition. The tan dash and panels have been professionally dyed black. The dash top has no cracks, all gauges work and look bright/not faded as a low mileage car would suggest. Custom 7,200RPM tach, period correct (I think it's dated '78) Momo Prototipo in superior condition, street full bolt in roll bar in chrome finish, new headliner (no sun visors due to roll bar), new looking plush carpet (not RS type), vintage Recaro Rally metal backed race seats, Simpson harnesses. There is a fire suppression system I removed from the car that I was/can put back in. I pulled out the A/C and all lines. These will be included in the sale of the car as I don't want them (compressor is gone). There is a simple am/fm cassette w/ door speakers and nice rear deck speaker enclosure - kind of worthless in this car though.
Mechanicals: This 911 was properly converted w/ real RSR parts at one time. I sold off the engine, transmission, and brakes and replaced them w/ more streetable, but track friendly equipment. I drive this car every day that it's not being updated or worked on. Bilstein RSR adjustable front suspension and thick drop link sway bar w/ new bushings. The brakes are big 4 piston calipers w/ 1.25" Th. vented Willwood rotors. Rear green bilsteins along w/ adjustable spring plates, 28mm torsion bars, big sway bar, and 4 piston brake calipers w/ vented Carrera rotors. Thick strut brace in the front and RSR shock tower re-enforcements in the rear. With the huge Michelins and this brake/suspension set up, this is one goes in and out of corners flat and fast. Streetable ride quality, but it is super firm. The steering gear has to be something special. At speed you just barely flip the wheel and your in the other lane, but at low speeds it's very easy to turn the wheel; not like any street 911 I've driven.
The transmission is a 7.3 to 1 915 from '73. It has been completely rebuilt and shifts through the short shifter and heavy duty clutch/pressure plate that was in the RSR drive train I took out of the car. Short, crisp, up and down shifts w/ no gear grind. Mechanical drive, not electric drive for the speedo.
The motor is a newly built aluminum case 3.0 European Carrera w/ a special grind on factory Porsche cams and 9.8 to 1 high compression Mahle pistons. Reliable CIS w/ new injectors and a modified WUR to work w/ the higher spec engine. I chose not to go w/ webers and couldn't be happier. This CIS system starts first crank, idles great, and still manages to give me good MPG. I need to have a dyno test done before I quoted horsepower, but there is a serious amount being put down by the rear wheels. No heat: I installed headers flowing into a custom dual out muffler. You'd have to hear this one run to appreciate the incredible tone it emits. Front spoiler mounted oil cooler. Temp runs 130, even on the hottest Florida days.
I have a lot of photos, and would be happy to send them to whomever if there is genuine interest in a purchase. This is a no BS fast and unique car and only willing to give it up if I can get the other one mentioned at the onset of this post. Price is $29,500.00. I'd go a couple of hundred more, or less, to make the right deal for someone, but other than that - I just keep it. My email is: jpnorthwood@aol.com
