Really nice orange bar hood badge

This is an unrestored OEM hood badge with a very small
repair on the smaller orange bar of the top right quadrant.

Sorry about the quality of the camera phone. The bars
are a really nice dark orange, I don't think this badge
saw much sunshine at all and judging by the colour of
the gold not much road use either.

    $525 shipped insured anywhere.

Excellent "Non issue" early hood crests sell for $300, what makes yours worth $225 more?
    It doesn't even appear correct.

Maybe you should do a search, here's a post from yesterday.

Maybe we're all on here out of line but I've personally sold
restored badges for $400-$450 and consider an unrestored
    badge more desirable.

    What is your point?

I do not need to do a search!

It is clear that Joe whom I've done many dealings with has a badge that is very correct, with no issues and priced at $350. Yours which is not so proper "appearing" is $175 more, what am I missing? Is it an equatorial thing?

Please understand I'm not casting any aspersions, but I don't think this is a correct badge.

Yours seems to have aftermarket dimpling in the very lower left and around the Porsche type at the top.

here is a good pic to compare an authentic badge.

Shaun, there are two versions of the early badge, both original. One with dimpling on the back and one without.

It's an original early badge but, looks to me like it has been re-plated. The finish is just to shiny and is probably the wrong karat since the color looks off to me as well. The state of finish of the pins is a dead give away to me along with the cleanliness of the solder joints.

There was a second series badge that had a deeper orange, almost red bar. I've held a true NOS early "Orange Bar" badge and even that one did not have a bar color that dark.

I wouldn't be able to tell if the enamel had been restored on this one unless I had it in my hand since it looks that good. If it was...an excellent job of it.

Thanks Michael, always good to learn something. This one looks like someone took a Dremel to the back of a repro.

Do you have data on years in which an orange bar had dimpling? That would be good to know.

There is a company that restores these. From their website, they look perfect. don't have the URL handy.

It's hard to tell, because of the poor quality pictures, but I don't see the crispness compared to this one.
