    identify muffler?

One of the problems with using that type of aftermarket muffler system is that there is no provision for supporting the weight of the system like the standard muffler does, it's all hanging on the heat exchanger. I vote for a sport muffler with the inner baffles trimmed as in the Up-Fixin article. I've had one on my S for 26 years now.

This model as well as the less plumbing appearing Bursch I had hang down well below the rear center panel and sound a bit like a swarm of bees.

I agree with you completely, Ed, but take a closer look at that photo.

Looks to me like the previous owner was able to make something work with the muffler straps and stock hanger.

You may be right Marco, I saw the hanger in the picture but thought maybe it was just being stored with the system, but maybe it was rigged as a support. It would be one of the few times I've seen someone smart enough to do that.

    Bursch

Had a Bursche on the 65 for about 2 weeks. Made great sound or should I say S O U N D. At the first track day folks said they could hear the engine and shifts from over a mile away. (Track mgr came over for a chat). Wear ear plugs at hiway speeds.

I'd say leave it exactly where it is.

Personally, I LOVE the sound of a good, used (read: no more packing) Bursch on a 2.0/2.2 car at full wail ... it's a vintage kind of cool.

On anything other than those little motors though, I'd say you're better off leaving it in the rafters.
