Thread: Fan blade housing strap color

    Fan blade housing strap color

For a 1970 S, should the strap around the fan housing be black or anodized in the factory goldish color?

    Thanks,

    John

Black. Far as I remember, black for the strap through the 73MY to include the RS.

Yes, all 2 bolt straps were black but in mid MY '73 production the strap changed to one bolt and it was then silver in color (galvinized?).

    I stand before you humbly

So, for Brian.....Was the RS production completed before mid year? I don't recall seeing any 73 "original" RS's without the two bolt strap.

I imagine the Euro 2.7 MFIs in 74-75 had the one bolt straps.

Thanks, guys. A black strap it is. I am so happy about this as the one on the car is black and I thought it was powder coated when the former owner had the motor re-built.

    This works out just great

    Thanks again!

Yep, not silver but not really bright yellow cad either after further review. Originally the fan center and coil strap were pretty bright yellow but the strap was a much more muted yellow.

Check these Factory videos out and look a the colors of those parts during the building process and road testing of the cars with single bolt straps.

Here is shot of engine in the Ray Allen '73 T (thanks to Curt E. for this). The color of the metals has faded a bit but this gives a nice contrast of the two finishes.

    Hey Michael,

The last day of RS production was July 10, '73 so they were made almost all the way through the '73 MY. I don't know exactly when the change was made to one bolt straps but I think the change over was in Apr. sometime. Here is RS 1225 which was made in May '73.
