    SWB rear vented brakes question

I've done a bunch of reading on this but can't seem to find a clear answer. can I use regular rear ( solid rotor ) calipers on my SWB with rear vented rotors by using the spacer between the caliper halves. I have a set of freshly rebuilt SR calipers. I'd like to rebuild my VR calipers but wish to drive the car meanwhile as it may be a lengthly process. can I separate the VR caliper halves and use the spacers between the SR caliper halves? I'd also have to change over the crossover line, and I know the pistons aren't the same diameter. but will this work? thanks, Don.

I believe the reason most people do not split the calipers when rebuilding is due to difficulties in finding new O-rings to seal the fluid passages between the caliper halves in the case that the originals are damaged upon removal. Other than that, I think your spacer plan is quite do-able. Eric Shea would lknow better but I seem to recall seeeing some "dogbone" spacers for some special project 914-6 or other, which he is so fond of.

    Best Regards.

(IIRC) SWB rear calipers do not have O-rings as they do not have fluid passages between calipers, there are crossover lines. But unfortunately I can't comment if original question is doable, I'll use S-calipers on mine. (also Alan UK is selling kit with new rear vented discs/calipers)

There is no reason I can see that it will not work. The primary differences between the calipers are the spacers and the piston sizes. The piston size is not a significant factor, and you have the spacers, lines & longer bolts. Verify the caliper is centered over the rotor, and you are good.
