    911 Returns to Monte Carlo?

Not the Monte Carlo Classic, the real Monte Carlo Rally has quietly opened the event to GT class cars (in addition to IRC's usual S2000, Grp N and Grp A cars). I'm not sure if this is due to trouble filling the 100-car field or was the plan all along. GT Class includes cars like the Porsche 911 GT3, the Aston Martin Rally GT, the Gallardo GT3R and many others. I haven't been able to find a preliminary entry list yet.

The WRC still seems to be the pinnacle of the sport, but to me the IRC seems to have a lot going for it. From the larger entry fields, to the venues, to the more varied tire choices, and not least, the ability for each rally to have it's own schedule and route choice.

+1 on the IRC. It looks like Mikko Hirvonen is going to do a 1-off IRC rally at the Monte in the new Fiesta. They were testing in the mountains last week.

One of the few forms of motorsport with lots of GOOD things happening right now:

    >IRC: Subaru have joined Abarth-Fiat, Honda, Peugeot, Proton, Mitsubishi-Ralliart, Škoda and Volkswagen, after taking a year off from WRC.
    >Ford is running the Focus in WRC and Fiesta in IRC (via M-Sport).
    >Kimi is signed with Citroen (WRC) and it's now looking like a permanent move.
    >Toyota is taking their F1 $$$ and moving to WRC next year.
    >Ken Block & Chris Atkinson have a new WRC Ford team.
    >Valentino Rossi is looking to do more WRC events this year (probably Mexico at least).
    >Robert Kubica has done a couple of national rallys with the full support of Renault.
    >Heikki Kovalainen and Sebastian Vettel are both interested in doing events next year.
    >Renault has 2 new rally cars this year for privateers.

Curt here in Spain, those machines have GT Class entry for the National Championship. Actually this year a GT3 was the National Champion... Vallejo Brothers prepared by Vara a french competition tuner. Here in the 2008 Canary Islands venue

And we had some others GT3 and even Ferrari F430, not very reliable by the way Next season seems to be even more entries in the GT Class!!

Really nice to see the 911 back in business, those manufacturers provide another dimension to the competition and fans. I will upload some more pics from last season.

Yeah, as cool as the Citroens, Fiestas and Peugeots are, there's nothing quite like a full-blooded GT car! Hopefully we will get some sort of TV coverage of the Monte here is the US.

No GT class at the Rally Monte Carlo 2010

It is very very bad, but the GT class was canceled due to regulations:

Here is the new regulation form for the Rally Monte Carlo without GT class....

I can't understand, WRC will disappear with no factory teams, rule changes, lack of a real project for the long term...

Well, enjoy this video... truly inspiring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvTDSTQXznY

OK, well first there's one of the Spanish GT3RS rally cars for sale here:

FS: 997 GT3 Spanish Rally Championship Car

Next, one of my favorite rally drivers, Francois Delecour takes a 997GT3RS out for a little ride. I never knew he was a Porsche fan. He mentions that he tried to enter the Monte Carlo rally with a GT3RS in 2008 but was turned down .... "they are afraid of it" .....

Delecour's trademark was always his sleeves tucked up to his elbows .....
