    Serial No. stamping location?

Do 911s have their ser. No. stamped into the shell ala 356 models (below the gas tank)?? A friend who has a race car built from a stripped shell is wanting to locate the ser # and there is no data plate attached. It would seem that the number might be stamped into the body but I wouldn't know where to look.

    Many thanks!

There are various locations. Between the gas tank and the smugglers box is the main chassis VIN. There are also the aluminum badge and the A pillar tag. Also, depending on the year, on the dash frame below the radio opening. Often the dash # is handwritten in grease pencil on the top of the dash. From 1969 this was a production number. Also a number can be found on the tunnel, under the cover, in front of the rear seats.

    Hi Dave
up to what year can this number on the tunnel be found?

I don't think it is there on my 1973 car, Is it one of those numbers (like the ones on the doors, lids etc) that gradually got omitted over time? If so does anyone know when each type of iD number location was valid up to?

    I know it is on some 1968 & 1969 912's but I don't have much data.
I really need some guys with the early 911's to check carefully and report what exists. This needs to be correlated to VINs, & production numbers on the 1969 cars.
The tunnel #'s are different formats in the 912's between 1968 & 1969, and they do not match the VIN's or the production #'s.
Any and all data points are appreciated.
