    2.2 Clutch issue?

    The clutch in my 70 suddenly began to feel different. It now begins to engage almost imediately off the floor, feels tighter, and shifts more smoothly from 1st to 2nd. Free play is still about 1.25" when I pull on the pedal. What should I look for?

    How did the change happen? Overnight between drives? While driving?

    I would suggest a precautionary inspection of the clutch linkage at the bell housing and to confirm proper cable adjustment.

    If it shifts better, though, why look a gift horse in the mouth?

    Max,

    I do like the smoother shift from 1 to 2 but I now have to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. It just does'nt feel right. I'm thinking that I'll just have to jack er up and go through the whole clutch cable system.

    The typical places to check are the pedal cluster roll pin and the ring boss on the differential side cover which holds the end of the clutch cable.

    I agree with the already mentioned including an unraveling clutch cable but maybe it's as simple as a loose pedal stop in the floorboard.
