I am not sure if I am fully understanding the question, but I have seen a few longhood rally spec cars which had Webasco heaters.

So is the question how did they source heat (Webasco vs heat exchanger vs other) or how does the Webasco heater work?

i don't know about all of the cars, But the Monte carlo ST's from 1972 did have the Webasco heaters as did 1973 RS / RSR R1 and R2 (as you mentioned) as they were originally spec'd as rally cars.

Obviously rally cars needed heating and demisting and also were likley to be not running heat exchangers so the webasco was the source of the heat.

I know i have a photo of at least one factory rally car with the webasco but I will look and see what others i might have

Roland Kunz once posted that the Webasto heater was as much responsible for the success of the Rally cars as the engine.

Yes, I know they did use the Webasco in some rally cars. I wonder if they actually worked when they needed them! The system as a whole was rather complex. At the Frankfurt Auto Show I have visited the Webasco booth and have seen things sure have changed. But what they offer today is way to modern for our uses.

    911R Webasco heater

I have a Webasco heater that was taken out of a 911R for restoration and never re-installed?

    Hi to all
Saw this post and well I have two cars with these heaters in them. The more amazing is my 68 S targa currently under restoration and then a ST. Both have the same system in them only the mounting seems to differ from the 68 car to the 72 car. There are so many units that is part of this as I need to restore one unit in the ST and I will use the assembled unit in the S as a guideline and will take some detail pics for this thread. I will post more pics with better details now that I wil be documenting this.
The pictures shown here are from both cars and also the area where it is mounted.
