    Broken window crank

    Hi guys,

I have been having some trouble with my window cranking up and down smoothly for several months now.

After reading previous posts I checked that my window was firmly sitting in the metal tray - it is actually glued in place

I also checked that the sliders were not binding. They had a small amount of free play but no obstructions.

The window felts themselves seem to be in good condition.

So after checking all of this and cleaning everything up still no improvement. To get the window to go down I need to put pressure on it whilst cranking.

On the way up there was also extreme resistance and it seems I have now broken something as it will not wind the window up at all and just makes a clicking noise.

Is my crank mechanism completely buggered now?

Any ideas? Does anyone have a diagram of this mechanism?

What is the best way to pull it all apart?

    Thanks in advance

    Ed

    Ed,

If you pull it out (about 6 cheese head screws) and get the regulator out, i think you'll find that you have a broken regulator spring mounting screw #2.

you'll need to measure the screw (pivot) as there a few different types, and note the orientation of the slot, as there are two different ways

I had to remove the regulator on the other side as mine was completely missing.

The new ones are a screw in type, rather than peened over at the end, that you'll have to drill out, unless it's just fallen out, like mine.

New ones are available here, as i'm sure many other suppliers.

I hope that helps and if you get stuck, just shout.

The bird has a number of threads on this topic. This one is good for a start: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ustration.html

I did mine a few years ago. Not hard, figure an afternoon for each one. You do not need to remove the window from the door to repair the regulator but it is fiddly.
