    dead pedal

I was just in parts for sale and noticed an add for a dead pedal footreast. I was thinking about my 67S targa which has somewhat of a deadrest from the factory. I do not belive the coupes have the same sheetmetal.

Anyone know the reasoning behind this? It just struck me odd and am curious

    Tom,

I know the footwell area of the targa is different than the coupe. More structural reinforcement in the lower area for targa. Not sure if it fits your swb but for my 69 I found a gent here who had reproduced the targa pedals. Works well for the autoX but can be tight especially with large feet/shoes.

    btw, howz the resto going?

    Found an old thread

I tried a different search and found a thread on "foot rests.

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ight=foot+rest

It has an image of the early targa "foot rest" It is suggested it is a stiffener, but I believe it is only on the left side so I doubt that is accurate. Any one read anything definitive?

The dead pedal should fit by trimming or bending a portion to accommodate the Targa reinforcement.

Well Tom, looks like you uncovered something unique. Those pictures certainly look like different reinforcements to me. Wonder if that footrest is a one-off

    foot rest

I do not think it is a one off. I think it was standard issue on 67 and 68 targas.

If the prevailing thought is the factory did this as a chassis reinforcement need in the targa, they had the foresite to shape it to be an effective dead pedal. If there is so much stress in the chassis in that area to justify a gusset, I am surprised that gusset did not find it's way into race cars or sport purpose coupes to further stiffen the coupe chassis and provide the dead pedal at the same time.
