Help in ID of Alloy Calipers

Bolts are 3 1/2 inches on center. They weigh about 5 lbs each. They are marked ATE in several spots and they are asymetrical (?) which I presume translates to Left and Right. Year?? Model?? Value Range??

    Thanks,

    Bill

That is a mismatched pair of Aluminum S calipers. The one with an X in the circles is late, say 1972.5, while the other is very early since it has neither cX's or even circles, so about 1969. They look to be so-so condition, so value is between $200 & $300 perhaps.
BTW, only the lines and the piston orientation make them asymmetrical; change the lines, and rotate the pistons and you can easily switch sides.

Thanks Dave. I traded them even for a set of fake Fuchs with old but good Michilins which I was trying to peddle for about 2 bills. At least the calipers are smaller and lighter. I'm going to list them.

If you look at the first picture you will see that the castings are more rounded on one of them and the other is more definitive or squared off. That is another difference between the early and late S calipers.

    Agree...

Early calipers are the 908 caliper casting (the ones on the bottom in the first picture). They also had the clear anodizing.

Later calipers went back to a 910 style nose on that same caliper. They also went with a green dichromate over the anodizing.

Those are excellent calipers and they are the same in all respects with the exception of the shape of that nose (same pads, pistons etc.). Good luck with the sale, it will be tough with the mismatched pair. Some thoughts: Sell them as solos? Search for mates, as Dave said they are asymmetrical. You could have 2 pair worth about $250-300 each pair in today's market. If I had some strays I'd grab them.
