    What Happened to Detroit...

I grew up there. If this weren't so sad it would be entertaining...

The video is pretty accurate. I'm regularly in the 'City' on business. Driving around, sometimes it's almost like watching a sci-fi movie through your windshield, it can't be real. 40% of the land area is now 'urban prairie'. Of course, like most major metro areas the surrounding suburbs are very nice and a world apart.

This is an interesting blog by a guy who purposely moved his family from San Francisco to the City of Detroit - Sweet Juniper . The 1st photo is the public book depository. This, and many schools, were just closed up. As is. Nothing ever cleaned out The other is one of many urban prairie areas, once covered with 1000's of homes. 3rd photo - inside an animal pen in the abandoned Belle Isle Zoo.

There will be critics of this video who have never read this book and don`t have a clue as to where we are headed. Please note this WSJ article.

    "Atlas Shrugged" is a classic.

This is exactly where America is headed and a very good synopis of what happen leading up to as well as the aftermath of the credit bubble.

"For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises -- that in most cases they themselves created -- by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism."

You can say that again! Scary stuff, no doubt. My wife is reading that now and it is next on my list. No, wait.... I think I will pick it up today. Unrelated, but her book The Fountainhead is also a classic - on many people's 'best all time' list.

I just read that article (same subscription I suspect). Seems like half the population, some 1 million of them, have moved out. Didn't Lansing MI also suffer a huge population loss?
