Thread: Please help identify these air cleaner bases

Please help identify these air cleaner bases

I have three different styles of air cleaner bases. The difference is regarding the clips.

Am I correct if I identify them as follows:

    - bottom: short and open 65-67? Weber
    - top: short and closed 68 Weber
    - middle: zenith ??

I would appreciate sorting it out.

    Richard

top goes to MYs 64/65 to 69 (maybe some early 70MY)
bottom goes to 70 and 71 model yrs (exceptions - as there have been claims of "original" 70/71MYs with the plastic airboxs and middle style clips)
middle goes to (70/71?) 72-73 mys (obviously not CIS)

all regardless of MFI or carbs

Hi Richard Im' trying to source 1 clip like you have in the bottom base in your photo (short wire style); my re-plater lost one.

My car is an early 71 E so the identification noted appears correct.

If you have a spare clip or are selling the whole base please let me know and I'd like to purchase it.

    Thanks Robert

    Hi Robert

As you can see on the picture does the bottom base miss one clip as well (I noticed when I posted this picture). However I have several spares (all 3 styles) and might be able to help you out. I get back to you.

I don't remember which years but the location of the clips changed as well. I learnt this the hard way.

O.K. I'll see your 2 clips and raise 4 early clips.

I have a rouge base with this style clip. Any thoughts?

    Hi Rick

Yes you seem to have the correct clip. Are you selling the clips?

Hey Richard, sorry not for sale but I will send them to you free of charge if you pm an address. Same goes for Robert.

Just to be certain on which clips you need, you need the shortest hold downs. The ones on the bottom of the pic you posted?

The pic I posted shows the same as the middle base in Richard's photo but on the right the part of the clip you would push on to lock is narrow compared to the other version.
