67 S Targa why no sale?

    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...arga-sale.html

This has been for sale for a while, given the value of these cars with matching numbers and the soft window; the question now begs to be asked.....

In my mind a soft window assembly and a closely numbered 67S motor you have the ex Frank Gallogly car currently residing in Southern CA.

Math: $27,000 purchase - $70,000 conservative sale value = $43,000 for required parts and margin.

    What am I missing?

$43k isn't enough for all it needs to even equal the former Gallogly car, which was essentially "done". Engine, paint, interior, wheels, missing deco (inside and out), targa parts and fitting, wrong gauges etc.

For the right guy who wants a driver this might be a good car to do the obvious stuff on, and then search for the rest as you drive it.

It will look like a great deal if and when we get out of the depression.

    Eric,
I hear you on all the missing bits but it appears that is wrong is the missing bits. I agree with John. This is a car you can add value to. $10,000 for a tidy appropriate 2.0S motor, $15,000 for misc trim parts, negotiate a bit for the car and you will have a very nice 67S softie!

It's missing some key parts: original engine, guages, 100 liter gas tank, rocker panel trim, steering wheel. It could be a fun daily driver with a nice paint job, but certainly needs $$$ to make it right.

In my experience, the differences between "just a car" and a truly great example can seem small in appearance, but huge in price. This car, as it currently sits, is about as far from a truly great example as it could get: (i) non-original, wrong-type motor, (ii) no soft rear window, (iii) wrong gauges, (iv) missing trim pieces and mirrors and key interior pieces, (v) driver-level paint in wrong color, (vi) tatty interior, (vii) undetailed undercarriage and engine bay/trunk, (ix) wrong wheel finishes, etc., etc. and so on. This car would easily swallow up $75,000 becoming a truly nice car, and it still wouldn't have the original motor. Cheaper to just pay too much for a great car to begin with. I say this car is priced at about what it is worth, and there just aren't that many guys looking for "ok" cars right now. That is why it sits.

Priced right for someone who wants a sloppy SWB driver with S emblems. Everything that made that car great, except the seats, is gone.
