    Cibie hood mounted lights

I think I have finally made up my mind on my project. I am going to soon commit to a body shop and engine shop, I have decided NOT to do a flare S/T project. I am going to stick with the standard body of my 1970 911. I plan to have it painted original color which was 8383 metallic green. Now for the Cibies.

Several years ago I bought two pairs of original cibie lights. I am undecided on whether to mount four lights on the hood, two light on hood and two on fender, two lights on hood, or two lights on fenders.

How will these lights look on a standard bodied car, I have normally seen them on flared cars?

I am afraid to tell my wife that if I only use one set of Cibies then I will be forced to by another car for the other set

The looks are completely a matter of personal taste. I opted to mount the ones on my '67 on the hood as I find my mood changes from time to time: sometimes I prefer the look with the Cibies and other times I prefer a cleaner look. So I got a second hood (cheap and easy to find) which gives me the flexibility to switch back and forth in about 20 minutes.

The fender mounted Cibies look nice in my opinion, but once those holes are drilled you have made a real commitment.

    Cheers,

I think the body-mounted lights are a matter of personal taste much like steering wheel types, flares, etc. There are lots of examples of narrow-bodied cars with Cibies. John Audette's 67 (below) leaps to mind. Look through the rally car picture thread and the Show your ride threads for more.

I went hood mount on my car, but I did it about 9 years ago when there were a lot fewer out there.

On the next car I'm going to do the fender mount.

Here's a shot of my 67S at Cambria back in 2002, and you can see Rolly's car in the background with the lights mounted on the fenders.

To flare or not to flare

I put 7x15 on all fours on my "E" and I think that it gives a wider stance look without redoing the fenders. It`s subtle but it is there.
