FS: 1970 911E Signal Orange Coupe

    ** SOLD - PAYMENT RECEIVED **

As I mentioned here elsewhere, I will be selling two or three cars this year in order to move on to another project. Here's the first one...

    1970 911E Coupe
    VIN 911 0200 180

    -------------------
    o Mileage
    Just turned 100K. Documented.

    o Chassis
High quality glass out paint job done by Stuttgart Auto Body in Englewood, Colorado in October, 1992 at a cost of $4,400 (plus many parts). I have the invoice. Signal Orange is the original color and the paint is in great condition.

There was rust repair to the lock posts at the time it was repainted. The section of the driverside post with the manufacturers label was saved and I found it in the parts box. There are no signs of rust on the the car presently. It was dinged on the passenger side behind the door and the repair was done to a high standard.

I have removed the seats and carpets the floor doesn't show a speck of rust - just Signal Orange over-spray. I removed one of the quarter panels (I'm sure it was the first time it's been off since first installed in Germany in late 1969) and it is bone dry underneath. I removed everything under the hood and found the same story there - bone dry with Signal Orange overspray.

    o Extensive Documentation
I'm the fourth owner of the car. The first owner had it for only a brief period of time. There's a sales invoice dated December 1973 showing the purchase by the second owner, Daniel Johnson, for $6,256.50. He owned it for 33 years until selling it to Jesse Wurmbrand in 2006. I bought it from Jesse. Mr. Johnson was a fanatic. He addressed every little thing immediately - and he kept all records and invoices. As did Jesse, and as do I.

    o Engine
2.2 with MFI. Engine was completely rebuilt by Storz Garage in 1997 with 82,000 miles on the clock at a cost of $9,000. The top end was rebuilt again 10K miles ago. Rebuild included new P's and C's, align bore by Competition Engineering, cams, crank, rockers and rods reconditioned. All new bearings. MFI pump rebuilt by H and R Fuel Injection, LTD. Stacks rebuilt by Beiker Engineering. Engine has SSI's. The case is unstamped and there are two original service booklets, which I understand indicates that the factory replaced the engine in the car's first six months under warranty.

    o Perfect Brightwork

    o Interior
Very good condition. Original vinyl sport seats with orange plaid inserts. Has an early replacement dash in excellent condition. Original carpet has shrunk slightly at the rocker panels. Original steering wheel in good condition. Pockets are in good to excellent condition. Front pockets have speakers installed but it's an excellent job and I could probably live with it. Original seat belts front and back and it looks like the ones in the back have never been used.

    o Original air conditioning
All pieces removed, including below the dash panel, and saved.

    o Front oil cooler
    Highly desirable (and expensive) enhancement.

    o Rebuilt 901 5-speed transmission
The third gear synchro was evidently worn when I got the car as it would lightly grind in a fast up-shift from second to third. I had the transmission rebuilt by German Transaxle here in Bend at a cost of $3,500.

    o Suspension
Original hydro-pneumatic E front end is replaced with SC parts. Has original S front calipers. Torsion bars are Sanders 22/28mm. I have the original bars also. Rear has Weltmeister sway bar. Wheels are 15x6 Fuchs in decent shape (but could use refinishing). New Bilsteins on all four corners.

    o Mint tool kit
    Complete and correct.

o Driver's Manual, (2) Original Service Booklets and folder

o Things that can be improved:

    - Wheels need refinishing.
The wheels are the weakest thing about the car as the last refinish was a DIY job. They need to go to a pro like Harvey Weidman for a professional job.

    - Front spoiler could be replaced.
The one on there is fiberglass and it's in good condition. Personally I prefer steel and I have a steel spoiler primed and ready to paint. I'm willing to include it in the negotiation discussions.

    - Repair a few rock chips.
There are some rock chips in the front. A PO put the vinyl protection on it in strategic and, while I hate the stuff, it did do a good job of protecting things. I will remove it if I keep the car (comes off fine with heat).

    - Replace battery
A PO removed the two batteries and installed one (very large) Optima which displaced the original spare which was replaced by a space saver spare. But the original spare came with the car and I would remove the Optima (as much as I like them), and replace with two stock type batteries, and use the original spare.

    Asking Price: $36,500

There are gobs of pictures at Kodak Gallery, but I think I have to send an invitation in order for you to view them. Email me (john-at-audettecollection-dot-com) or PM me if you're interested in viewing them and I will send you an invite.

    John,

I had hoped against hope this car wasn't coming onto the market so quickly. I watched intently from the sidelines when you bought the car from the Colorado owner. Even when you posted recently it would be coming on the market this year I thought you might hold off long enough for me to be ready to make an offer.

Alas, the timing for me still isn't right, but someone is going to get a special 911. Best of luck in finding its new caretaker. This is one of the very few cars and owners I would have no concerns buying from long distance.

    Cheers,

    -Mike

    Wow! That was quick.

I was going to suggest this one to a client who's looking for a clean no issues weekend car. Just goes to show...

    Congrats to both parties...

John, in your third pic, air in right rear tire is very low and why the car has little "tilt" to the right.

    Hi Richard...

I got the car out of my warehouse for the pictures and I didn't notice that until after I had taken them. I've put some air in for the new owner.

Will do. A lot of interest in this car. Four others have also expressed an interest.
