    Correct Shift Knob for SWB?

I have seen SWB's with both plain black shift knobs and with knobs showing the 901 shift pattern. Which are correct for a '67?

BTW, the 901 knobs with the shift pattern from Andy in the UK are fantastic. I just received the two that I ordered and installed one on my recently sold '70 911E.

    Thanks,

I'll bet/guess some of the later cars had them.

I've got a plain, mushroom style on my early 912. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact it is a screw-on and doesn't use a crush sleeve. It is a factory 5-speed.

John - from what I've gathered, '67 is when Porsche transitioned from a screw-on all-black shift knob to the slide-on knob familiar with the 901 LWB. My Nov'66 build '67 still has the screw-on knob (which I'm missing btw - anyone have one for sale?). Best regards... Pat

The transition happened around March '67 according to the factory manual.
However, if you have a threaded shifter (like my car) it makes life infinitely easier. It works out nice and cheap since these are readily available. I was a happy camper when I removed my old Amco knob and found the shaft to be threaded.

Good Question. I was wondering this exact thing Saturday.

Thanks for posting the tech sheet.
