Thread: WTB 73 oil line

    WTB 73 oil line

I would like a used, (doesn't have to be good), oil line that goes from the left side of the engine block to the oil thermostat that hangs off the bottom of the oil tank. This is exclusive to any 73 car that came with a factory oil cooler. Yes, I know they are available new. But I'm in need of a used one. I am attempting to attach a photo.

It MUST be a 73? I have a NOS 74- with the fitting on the end instead of the hose that I will sell you for $110 including shipping.

    Thanks for the reply John.
Your suggestion will work, but I need to keep the car 100%,so I am looking for the 73 line.

I know that line, had to replace the leaky one on my 73 CIS car with a retrofitted 74 line. They are slightly different in appearance.

I think have the old leaky one, I don't know if that will work for you.

The old leaky one would be fine. Did a 73 CIS car have a factory front oil cooler?

No the CIS cars did not have a front oil cooler. I am pretty sure the hard line from the engine oil pump to oil tank (The one pictured) does not have anything to do with an external factory oil cooler setup. I am more familiar with the 2.2 set up on my 911S. The oil circulation lines from engine to tank are independent from the external oil cooler lines.

The line I have is identical to the one in your picture - I know because I looked everywhere for that line then realized it was superseded by the 74 line which is a little better but not correct for 73. If I had a 73S then I would also try to stay correct. I will dig out the line I have -

I don't believe the line that you have is the same. On a 73 car with a oil cooler up front, you have a thermostat attached to the threaded collar on the bottom of the oil tank. The line we are talking about, (and pictured), goes from the left side of the engine block to the thermostat that is attached to the oil tank. If you don't have a front cooler, than you don't have that thermostat, and the line would attach directly to the oil tank. The end of the rubber hose would have a straight fitting on the end. If you have a front cooler /thermostat,then the hose end would have angle of a little more than 45 degrees to mate up to the bottom of the thermostat.

Rick, you are right, the oil line I have is the same in every way except yours has a 90 degree angle on the fitting coming out of the hose while the one I have is straight. I am used to the early external cooler/oil tank and not as sure with the 2.4 setups. Close but not exact, Sorry.

What do new ones go for these days?

$350. I have the fittings, hose and crimpers, so I can restore a line for a fraction of a new one.
