Thread: What size pin wrench for SWB Boge nut?

What size pin wrench for SWB Boge nut?

I cannot bring myself to use a pipe wrench for this application like so many generations of previous owners.

The wrench looks like the below, and the nut is also shown (thanks Bob Fleming for the photo!)

There are two measurements- diameter of the pins and the distance between them. I don't have my gland nut handy but maybe somebody does.

    Thanks!

This isn't likely to help you one iota but BMW uses a similar setup on their wheel hubs on the old stuff. I have one that is adjustable by moving pins to alternate locations on the handle. This one can be used with 2 or 4 pins installed.

    4-5mm pins

It is the only clean way to remove them.

    Hi John,

You need a pin spanner or pin wrench. I bought mine from Grainger. They carry Proto which is a great quality tool mfg.

    Check out this link, http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/spa...-9a8?op=search

Just checked a spare Boge strut nut. The hole is 6mm across.

Finally checked this, the pins are 38mm apart on center. (The outside measurement is 44mm, minus one 6mm pin = 38mm) just like measuring a connecting rod. . .

So a 38mm wrench with 6mm pins, preferably with 3/8" socket.
