Thread: Who has the longest tailpipe?

    Who has the longest tailpipe?

I borrowed this pic from Thomas lundeval in the rally thread. Is there any benefit to having longer pipes? I'm sure backing up could be interesting at times.

Its not the length of your pipe, but how you use it.

... it's how hot it gets and how much noise it makes.

    Ahem.....

I do recall that sport mufflers came with different length outlets depending on whether the engine was 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4 liters. I always assumed it was a tuning issue. Anybody have the associated details?

I used to have pipes like that on my previous car. I guess I was overcompensating for something.

I have 2 sport mufflers and they are about half the length of the pictured car. I do seem to recall the cookie cutter extensions off of headers sticking way out there. Kinda funny that the German govt would have a problem with the duc tail but not sport mufflers. Maybe they did and weren't used on the street. I have a few shin scars from the sport mufflers but no burn scars to match the side muffler corvette burns you could get.
