I was inspecting the brakes on my 1970 911e today, and discovered that the front calipers are aluminum and the rears are steel, any thoughts out there? Thank you in advance. Bob Schwartz

Not surprising at all.
Are the front struts Hydropneumatic as well? That was very common. If not, it may have been equipped with them and then replaced with regular S struts. The type and date codes on the struts might be interesting.

Agree... pretty common combination on this board.
S-Calipers up front and rear M-Calipers out back. Stock on all S's from 1969 up and ended on the very first 930.
Given the year of your car, the fronts should be clear and without the circle indents molded into the top. Like these:
Rear's like this:

Thank you for the input, very helpful. Bob Schwartz
What Neunelfer failed to mention is that he is the Brake Caliper Guru! He restored my S calipers just like the ones in his pictures. you may want to take a look at his website. He is a master......no affiliation, just a very happy customer!

Put me down as another happy customer for Eric aka "Neunelfer".
I felt bad getting all that brake dust on such shiny new Aluminum S Calipers, until I drove the car on some nice twisty roads. They work well and make for fun driving.

Fleiger, Mine are exaclty like yours but Im thinking about going with early turbo calipers now that Im putting in a 3.2ss. Im not looking forward to getting the Alum calipers dirty I may try to find someone to do a trade for the early S ones toward a set of turbos and have Eric restore them also. Mine havent even had brake fluid in them yet.
